Thoughts

The Guard is one of the 4 Novellas in The Selection series. These novellas are actually short stories that focuses on the other characters’ stories in the book. In this book, it was Aspen’s point of view.

Aspen is America’s first boyfriend, first love until he broke up with her before she got selected as one of the 35 candidates in The Selection. It was Aspen who pushed her into joining.

Like The Favorite, The Guard story revolved around the happenings in The Elite which was the 2nd book in the series.

Hmm… Well, I totally loved all books that I have read by far in this series including the novellas — ASIDE from this. I didn’t see anything extraordinary or mind blowing. I don’t know if it was just because the life of a palace guard is as boring like that for me but really? There’s nothing much for me to be excited about in this novella. Everything felt, well familiar. I have already knew how he was feeling, thinking while reading America’s POV in The Elite book. Like, I knew that already, eh? What he was thinking, feeling were already expected.

However I was moved by this book’s ending, I kind of felt sad for Aspen. But life sucks sometimes. He let go of America in the first place and now he lost her. She truthfully dedicated her everything to him before but he let that pass. Sometimes, there is no such thing as second chances. Lesson learned, you never know what you got until it’s gone.
