Book Title: The Heir
Book Series: The Selection Book 4
Author: Kiera Cass
Date Published: March 2015
Genre: Young Adult
Summary: Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she’d put off marriage for as long as possible.
But a princess’s life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can’t escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests.
Eadlyn doesn’t expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn’s heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn’t as impossible as she’s always thought.
Oh my goodness. OH MY GOODNESS! To be totally honest with you guys, the book started very slow for me but indeed the ending — I DIED.
This has a different flare than the first three books. The first three books: The Selection, The Elite, and The One is about Maxon’s finding a wife. Over the years after he got married to America, a lot of changes happened in Illea.
They had twins! A boy and a girl — Ahren and Eadlyn respectively. Eadlyn is older than him by 7 minutes. By tradition, the heir to the throne would be the first born male but America and Maxon don’t want to strip Eadlyn the rights of the first born child so they change the law thus making Eadlyn, a girl, the heiress to the throne instead of Ahren.
Well, The Heir is about Eadlyn. She is of age now and thus is her turn for The Selection of her own. Since she is the first woman as an heiress to the throne, The Selection she has is the first ever woman-led selection. If before, the three books were about America’s POV and she was a selectee, The Heir is the POV of the selector. VERY NICE! Different flare, I’m telling you.
Eadlyn, well, what can I say about her? She has a strong character, she’s smart, she knows what she wants, very reserved, opinionated, kind of stubborn?, and slightly full of herself? Haha. Well, how can I blame the girl? She knows she’s the future queen? I love her for that though. And her tiaras and love for dresses! She’s way different than her mother. Girl, you know she grew up and was groomed in the palace and that I appreciate in this book… Eadlyn’s character is very refreshing (Amberly and America were both commoners once so that’s a different story).
SUPER loved America and Maxon’s family.
GOSHHHHHH! I loved this book!!! I can’t wait for book 5 of The Selection series or rather book 2 for The Heir which is The Crown. The ending — oh that ending!! It sealed the deal for me. Sigh!!!!
I definitely gave this book a 5 out of 5!!!!
