Book Title: This Savage Song (Monsters Of Verity)
Book Series: This Savage Song (Monsters Of Verity) Book 1
Author: Victoria Schwab
Date Published: July 2016
Summary: There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.
To set the record straight… This book is not a romance book! I believe a lot of people liked this book because of that! I don’t normally read fantasy books but I somehow felt the urge to read The Crown’s Game and This Savage Song books, which were just released recently, lately. Truthfully, amongst these two books, I liked This Savage Song book 10x than The Crown’s Game!!
Truthfully, I super LOVED and enjoyed reading this book! I even raved the story to my friends, who were clearly trying to keep up with my stories; they’re like also reading with me through my updates. Haha I don’t get much time and energy left much of the day to finish reading books but because this book is so awesome that I went far and beyond my limits as I can’t wait to finish it any longer. I gave it a 5 out of 5 (which I hardly do!!!).
Though I was expecting romance in this book and it didn’t have, it came as a shock for me that I WASN’T EVEN DISAPPOINTED at all! Even without that (I’m all for romantic stuff), the plot, characters, twists made wonders alone! I hardly see this in a book!! Maybe it’s because of that, that I super loved this book!
Well, I loved the twist… I didn’t see that coming truthfully. I didn’t even had a clue. Was it just me? Haha I also loved the feistiness of Kate… Her character and how she was portrayed in this book. However I wished the personalities of August and Kate had been switched. August is the total opposite of Kate considering Kate is the human and August is the monster. Maybe it was because of that too that made this book work however I just find August’s character emasculated by Kate’s the whole time — which was a somehow turnoff for me… But yeah, I got over it too eventually because it is what it is! It’s uncommon but maybe that made it work… Well, not sure if the right term is uncommon but yooouuuu know society… Im not a sexist but… the ideal male vs female personalities/characters etc? Males commonly having the tougher, stronger, logic thinkers kind of beings and females being the more delicate and more on emotions type of beings? I hope you’re getting my point but that’s the best way I could express it actually. Haha
Any who, I specifically focused my review on their personalities because seriously… that is the major, or if not — one, reason why this book was set apart from the rest. I’m excited for the second book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Will the truce be over then? Bye for now. 🙂
